Pinacoteca do Estado do Rio Grande do Norte (Rio Grande do Norte State Art Gallery)
The Pinacoteca do Estado do Rio Grande do Norte (Rio Grande do Norte State Art Gallery) is located in the Espaço Cultural Palácio Potengi (Cultural Space of the Potengi Palace), a historic building finished in 1873 and major symbol of Natal’s neoclassical architecture. The gallery is the result of claims from local artists for space to exhibit their work. It keeps the largest visual arts collection of the state, including works from Alfredo Volpi, Tarsila do Amaral, Cícero Dias, Fayga Ostrower, Maria do Santíssimo, Newton Navarro, Abraham Palatnik, Moura Rabello and Hostílio Dantas. The sculpture of a Laos Buddha from the twelfth century made of lead and gold-plated, is one of the most famous pieces of the collection.
