Panteão da Pátria
Panteão da Pátria (Homeland Pantheon)
The Panteão da Pátria (Homeland Pantheon) is a three-story building whose shape resembles a dove. It was inaugurated in September 1986 as a tribute to the ‘national heroes’, a title awarded by the National Congress to relevant Brazilians deceased over 50 years ago. The piece Mural da Liberdade (Wall of Freedom), from the artist Athos Bulcão, has as its theme the symbol of the Inconfidência Minera (The Minas Gerais Conspiracy Movement) - a red triangle - and can be seen on the second floor. A stained glass piece from artist Marianne Peretti lights up the upper floor which keeps in its centre the Livro de Aço dos Heróis Nacionais (Steel Book of National Heroes), with the name of personalities that have marked the nation’s history.
