Museu Palácio dos Bandeirantes (Bandeirantes Palace Museum)

Seat of São Paulo state government and residence of the governors since 1964, the Palácio dos Bandeirantes (Bandeirantes Palace) was built in the previous decade by the Matarazzo family. From 1970 onwards, there was an effort to turn the Government Palace into a centre of culture. Currently, it keeps in custody a significant collection of works consisting of paintings, sculptures, religious art and decorative arts. Among artists represented in the collection are Cândido Portinari, Djanira Motta e Silva, Tomie Ohtake, Alfredo Volpi, Almeida Júnior, Pedro Américo, Oscar Pereira da Silva and Benedito Calixto.
