Museu Nacional do Conjunto Cultural da República - Honestino Guimarães
Museu Nacional do Conjunto Cultural da República - Honestino Guimarães (National Museum of the Cultural Complex of the Republic - Honestino Guimarães)
The Museu Nacional da Republic (National Museum of the Republic), next to the Biblioteca Nacional João Herculino (National Library João Herculino) and the Teatro Nacional (National Theatre), make up the Conjunto Cultural da República Honestino Guimarães (Cultural Complex of the Republic Honestino Guimarães). The complex was idealized by Lúcio Costa (1902-1998) and had already been planned in 1957 in the Brasília Pilot Plan. Designed by architect Oscar Niemeyer (1907-2012), the museum was inaugurated in December 2006. Intending to exhibit what is best in Brazilian contemporary visual culture and inserting Brasília in the international arts circuit, the space hosts exhibitions and travelling exhibitions of renowned artists and on crucial issues for Brazilian society.
