Museu Histórico (Historical Museum)

Created in 1981, the Historical Museum's mission is to encourage research and preserve and disseminate the history of science and health in Brazil, with special emphasis on the history of the Butantan Institute. In addition to the temporary exhibitions, the permanent exhibition of the museum brings several laboratory utensils and various objects used in the research conducted by the institute throughout its history. The Historical Museum is located in the laboratory space where Vital Brazil (1865-1950) developed the first serum ampoules against the bubonic plague that terrorized São Paulo between the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century. The Historical Museum is part of the scientific and cultural complex of the Butantan Institute, next to the Emílio Ribas Museum, the Microbiology Museum and the Biological Museum.
