Museu do Seringal Vila Paraíso
Museu do Seringal Vila Paraíso (Rubber Tapping Museum Vila Paraíso)
The Museu do Seringal Vila Paraíso (Rubber Tapping Museum Vila Paraíso) is a replica of the rubber plantation that used to exist in Humaitá, a city located 675 km far from Manaus. The museum environments replicate familiar spaces to the so called Ciclo da borracha (rubber cycle) which was an economic model in the Amazon region whose heyday took place from 1879 to 1912. The stroll throughout the Baron’s family house, the employees’ warehouse and the rubber tappers’ shed lay bare the social gap of the time. Visitors can experience the latex extraction process from rubber trees and rubber manufacturing. The museum was the setting of the feature film A Selva, 2002 (The Jungle), a film inspired by the book of the Portuguese writer Ferreira de Castro.
