Museu do Homem do Norte
Museu do Homem do Norte (Museum of the Northern People)
Taking the Museu do Homem do Nordeste (Museum of the Northeastern People) in Recife as inspiration, the Museu do Homem do Norte (Museum of the Northern People) was opened in March 1985 as a center for the valorization of the culture of the people from the northern region, their customs and ways of interaction with nature and society. It is headquartered in the Centro Cultural dos Povos da Amazônia (Cultural Center of Amazonian Peoples) and keeps about 2,000 objects in its collection. Objects of the region, such as rubber, household artefacts and crafts, initially made it up, the museum keeps the ethnographic collection of the indigenist physician Noel Nutels (1913-1973) who was engaged in the protection of indigenous peoples and the eradication of diseases transmitted to them by white people.
