Museu do Catetinho
Museu do Catetinho (Museum of Catetinho)
The Museu do Catetinho (Museum of Catetinho) was the first official residence of President Juscelino Kubitschek, inaugurated on November 10, 1956, to shelter him during his visits to the city in construction. After exactly three years, Catetinho – diminutive word of Catete, alluding to the Palácio do Catete (Palace of Catete) - then the government’s seat in Rio de Janeiro - was listed as a historical site by IPHAN (National Institute of Historic and Artistic Heritage). The museum preserves the furniture and some objects of that period. Photographic images and other items included in the characterization of the museum space are a faithful witness of the adventures and challenges that the construction of Brasília represented to the builders and to the country.
