Museu de Arte Sacra de São Paulo (São Paulo Museum of Sacred Art)
The Museu de Arte Sacra de São Paulo (São Paulo Museum of Sacred Art) occupies a wing of the Mosteiro Nossa Senhora da Imaculada Conceição da Luz (Monastery Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception of Light). The collection consists of items ranging from the XVI to the XX century and began to be formed in 1907 by Dom Duarte Leopoldo e Silva. He collected sacred images from demolished farm churches and chapels after the Proclamation of the Republic. Its collection is composed of pieces like altarpieces, cribs, altars, shrines, sacred images and liturgical vestments. The sculptures of Benedictine friars Agostinho da Piedade and Agostinho de Jesus made by the artist from Minas Gerais, Antonio Francisco Lisboa (Aleijadinho), and the paintings by Italian painter Anibale Carracci and by modernist artist Anita Malfatti are highlights.
