Museu de Arte Sacra de Pernambuco (Museum of Sacred Art of Pernambuco)
The Museu de Arte Sacra de Pernambuco (Museum of Sacred Art of Pernambuco), located in Alto da Sé, is installed at the former Casa da Camara (Town Hall), one of the first buildings of the village of Olinda, founded in 1537. At the end of the seventeenth century the Episcopal Palace began to operate there. Opened in 1977 from the donation of more than a hundred pieces given by the Archdiocese of Olinda and Recife, its collection includes objects of worship such as popular and procession saints, shrines and religious paintings, arranged in seven thematic exhibition rooms. The room O Altar na Igreja (The Altar in the Church) and the collection of ancient polychrome and golden classical images from the sixteenth century are sets that gather singular objects and works.
