Museu de Arte Moderna (MAM-RJ)
Museu de Arte Moderna / MAM-RJ (Modern Art Museum / MAM-RJ)
Devised by businessman and collector Raymundo Ottoni de Castro Maya (1894-1968), the museum was created in 1948. It distinguished itself as the guardian of one of the most important art collections in the country. After a fire destroyed part of the collection in 1978, the gradual recovery of their collections was made up through donations and various sponsorships. Housed in a building designed by carioca (from Rio de Janeiro) architect Affonso Eduardo Reidy in deep harmony with the landscaping of Roberto Burle Marx, the Gilberto Chateaubriand collection - one of the most complete collections of modern and contemporary Brazilian art - and Joaquim Paiva – with about 2 thousand photographs - are highlights of its collection.
