Museu de Arte Moderna da Bahia - Solar do Unhão
Museu de Arte Moderna da Bahia - Solar do Unhão (Museum of Modern Art of Bahia - Unhão’s Manor)
Grand architectural ensemble of the seventeenth century, the Solar do Unhão (Unhão’s Manor) was listed by IPHAN (National Institute of Historic and Artistic Heritage) in 1943. Later acquired by the State Government, the building’s restoration project was carried out by Lina Bo Bardi. Only in 1963 the Manor came to host the Museu de Arte Moderna da Bahia (Museum of Modern Art of Bahia), originally opened in 1960 at Castro Alves Theatre’s foyer. The museum has one of the most extraordinary views of the Baía de Todos-os-Santos (Bay of All Saints). With five exhibition rooms that receive works of renowned artists in Brazil and abroad, a movie theatre and an open-air gallery - the Parque das Esculturas (Sculpture Park) - MAM-BA is considered the main venue for contemporary art exhibitions in Bahia.
