Museu de Arte Moderna Aloísio Magalhães
Museu de Arte Moderna Aloísio Magalhães (Museum of Modern Art Aloísio Magalhães)
Located in the Recife central area, inside a nineteenth century building on the banks of the Capibaribe River, the museum is named after the artist Aloísio Magalhães (1927-1982), a designer and cultural activist from Pernambuco. It has established itself as a reference center on modern and contemporary production of Brazilian Visual Arts. With a collection of approximately 1,100 works produced from the 1920s onwards, the museum has dedicated itself, since the opening in 1997, to the critical thinking and dissemination of artistic production of the present days. The series Cenas da Vida Brasileira (Scenes from Brazilian Life), from João Câmara, and the winding and mystical paintings from Vicente do Rego Monteiro are highlights among the collections.
