Museu de Arte da Pampulha

Museu de Arte da Pampulha (Pampulha Art Museum)

Designed in the 1940's to be a casino, the building was turned into a museum in 1957. It was Oscar Niemeyer’s first project for the Conjunto Arquitetônico da Pampulha (Architectural Complex of Pampulha, which resulted in a successful combination between the rigor of form in the composition of the façade and an interior that creatively interprets the essential elements of the baroque style from Minas Gerais. The gardens of Roberto Burle Marx bring an inspiring composition of designs, shapes and colours derived from plants of the Brazilian flora. The museum houses about 1.400 works in its collection and has two spaces for temporary exhibitions.
