Tuesday to Thursday, 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Museu da Saúde Pública Emílio Ribas (Museum of Public Health Emílio Ribas)

Aiming to preserve and disseminate the history of public health in Brazil, the Emílio Ribas Museum is housed in the historic building (dating from 1893) where the former 'Central Disinfection' functioned, dedicated to the study and control of nineteenth-century epidemics. Its collection contains a large set of sound, audiovisual, textual and iconographic documents on public health and the history of health policies in Brazil, as well as about 200 objects. This collection deserves special mention a sprayer used for the disinfection of dwellings and urban spaces and a coal heater used to disinfect different materials. The Emílio Ribas Museum is part of the scientific and cultural complex of the Butantan Institute, next to the Biological Museum, the Museum of Microbiology and the Historical Museum.
