Museu da República (Museum of the Republic)

The Palácio Nova Friburgo (Nova Friburgo Palace), which was later Palácio do Catete (Palace of Catete), was built between 1858 and 1867 and established itself as a monument of inestimable historical, architectural and artistic value. It was the seat of the Presidency before the transfer of the federal capital to Brasília. The building has housed the Museum of the Republic since 1960. It keeps a vast collection from the republican era and seeks to preserve environments from this era, furniture, documents, works of art and photographs by setting up the atmosphere with diverse historical objects. A stroll through the nineteenth and twentieth centuries ends in Espaço de Atualização (Space for Refreshing Knowledge), reserved for observing the daily life’s journey of History.
