Dedicated to portray and celebrate the culture, life and history of the northeastern backwoods - the Brazilian sertão, the Museu Cais do Sertão (Cais do Sertão Museum) honours the work of one of its greatest performers, the singer and composer from Pernambuco, Luis Gonzaga do Nascimento, known as the King of Baião, a northeast rhythmic formula. Opened in 2014, it is an interactive venue that provides visitors with a dynamic, fun and vibrant experience. Located in the former Warehouse 10 of Recife’s Port, it is one of the most modern cultural venues in Brazil. Divided into seven thematic groups - Live, Work, Occupy, Sing, Create, Believe and Migrate - the settings bring references to issues and situations that are part of the life of sertanejos, people from the northeastern backlands.
