Museu Afro Brasil (Museum Afro Brasil)

The Museu Afro Brasil (Museum Afro Brasil), opened in 2004, and is housed in the Pavilhão Manoel da Nóbrega (Pavilion Manoel da Nóbrega), which is a construction integrating the architectural complex designed by architect Oscar Niemeyer in Parque do Ibirapuera (Ibirapuera Park). The venue aims at preserving and disseminating African and African-Brazilian culture throughout history, memory and art. Paintings, sculptures, engravings, photographs, documents and ethnological pieces are part of the collection consisting of more than 4,000 works. African resistance to slavery, African influences in the Christian faith and the representative objects and customs of their own religiosity are some of the themes addressed by the museum.
