Memorial dos Povos Indígenas (Memorial of the Indigenous Peoples)

Built in 1987, the Memorial aims to value and disseminate the diversity and cultural wealth of indigenous peoples. Designed by architect Oscar Niemeyer, the spiral format building is a reference to the village of the Yanomami tribe. It has an exhibition area, a small auditorium and a central courtyard, where cultural activities with the participation of indigenous ethnic groups from different parts of the country take place. The collection of 382 pieces, donated by the anthropologists Darcy Ribeiro and Bertha Ribeiro in 1997, with feathers, wooden objects, musical instruments and masks, are of inestimable historical and cultural value.
