Memorial do Rio Grande do Sul
Memorial do Rio Grande do Sul (Rio Grande do Sul Memorial)
Located in the former headquarters of the Correios e Telégrafos do Estado (State Postal Office and Telegraph), a historic building constructed between 1910 and 1913, the Memorial do Rio Grande do Sul (Rio Grande do Sul Memorial) is a preservation and dissemination center of the history and culture of the state. It was opened in June 2000 and puts together maps, miscellaneous objects, prints, photographs, books and iconographic images related to the state. In the lobby area, the Colunas Personagens (Character’s Columns) and the Linha do Tempo (Timeline) invite the public to dive into the cultural universe of Rio Grande do Sul and get to know episodes and relevant characters of the state history. The building also houses the Museu Postal (Postal Museum) and a Agência Filatélica (Philatelic Agency).
