Memorial da Resistência de São Paulo

The Memorial da Resistência (Memorial of Resistance) preserves the memory of resistance and political repression in Republican Brazil. It is based in the building that housed the Departamento Estadual da Ordem Política e Social de São Paulo - DEOPS (State Department of Social and Political Order of São Paulo -DEOPS) from 1940 to 1983. The long-term exhibition, organized in modules, goes from the building’s memory to the political repression memories in that period and includes visits to the remaining cells of the era of repression. The program Lugares da Memória (Places of Memory) makes an inventory of places where there were control actions by the repression organizations during the Estado Novo (New State) and the Ditadura Militar (military dictatorship), such as prisons, mental hospitals, trade unions, squares and streets.
