Casa-Museu Magdalena e Gilberto Freyre (Magdalena and Gilberto Freyre House Museum)
Acquired at the end of the 1930s, the Vivenda Santo Antonio de Apipucos (Villa Santo Antonio Apipucos), nowadays Casa-Museu Magdalena e Gilberto Freyre (Magdalena and Gilberto Freyre House Museum), located in Recife’s neighbourhood Apipucos, was the family home of Pernambuco’s intellectual for over 40 years. The building of colonial style, acknowledged as an original manor house of the nineteenth century, hosts the collection of objects and furniture that were part of Freyre’s family routine, and reflect the diversity of interests and tastes that accompanied the intellectual life of the writer. Books can be seen in practically every room. In the Library, visitors come across a friendly dummy of Gilberto Freyre (1900-1987) in his favourite position for reading.
